Well North Korea unless your living in Pyeongyang you really are borderline homeless. As far as these people go they are very brave being public about their experience in North Korea I have following a few and they have been recieving death threats from people claiming to be DPRK agents doesn't matter if they are or not fact is they put themselves at great risk speaking about their experience. Like one of these North Korean defectors was abducted while in China and she was shown captive in the North clearly under duress talking bad about her time in the South Korea. Thats why North Korean defectors are advised not to travel back to China for any reason because they can't be protected.
