Will today's strike in Syria change the way NK/China thinks or acts in their respective AOs?

A little, I think. The world will take a while to adjust to renewed leadership policies by the US. As allies begin to see consistency in the way we treat our friends and enemies, they will be increasingly on board with us. As adversaries see action in alignment with policy, then diplomacy and deterrence starts to become effective again. Nice to see so many other nations jump in with support for the strike.

China take a very long view on everything, even NK. While I am sure the Chinese government are no big fans of the regime, the regime does serve one very useful purpose. They are a complete distraction in the region that allows China to get away with more, like building islands in the South China Sea while the world frets, justifiably, about a nuclear NK.

Any time you become less predictable it can play to your advantage. Decisive action and boldness does cause others to at least consider your response. If you never do anything of any consequence (as we have done the previous 8 years) they know they can continue to push and they will.

60 cruise missiles is not a game changer in Syria. It is really to force Russia to make Assad play within some boundaries and norms. I don't think we have any hope of anyone but Assad and Russia winning their civil war so this is about managing the way it is won, not changing the outcome.
