I rather not discuss the medals awarded to me however, I am most proud of serving with Soldiers worthy of receiving appropriate recognition for their actions during combat operations in 2006 in Iraq. Here are three of many in the unit:

1LT Walter Jackson - Distinguished Service Cross (http://www.army.mil/article/5921/lieutenant-awarded-distinguished-service-cross/)

1SG (SFC at the time) Mark Newlin - Purple Heart; Silver Star; Bronze Star with Valor; Bronze Star; Army Commendation Medal with Valor - all during the same deployment! (http://www.army.mil/article/31974/humble-hero/)

SPC Darius L. Smith Silver Star (http://valor.militarytimes.com/recipient.php?recipientid=72119)

CSM Michael J. Uhlig, you are very humble. Thank you for giving the credit-where it is due-to others.
Thank you for your service and your sacrifices; Command Sergeant Major. I highly honor and respect you.

CSM Michael J. Uhlig I would venture that you spent many hours documenting the actions and completing the necessary paperwork to get those soldiers the recognition they earn on the field of battle b

Proud of all of them. The Alive in 65 ribbon gave me something to wear on an otherwise barren chest.

FYI my friend Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - by the way LTC Jason Carter wants to know what the Alive in 1965 means :-)

3 MSM's and the 1st one was the most special because I was a SMSgt and we were instructed to wear Blues to a staff meeting. When I got there, a Cpt in our unit who had not been there long looked at my uniform and loudly shouted, "Airman! What the hell is wrong with your uniform?" (I didn't even have a Commendation or Achievement Medal!)- I snapped to attention and respectfully responded with, "Sir, I'm not sure, SIR!" - He proceeded to tell me that either he was completely wrong about everything he thought about me to this point or I had some really crappy supervisors during my career. I advised him that one of the reasons I considered myself to be an above average supervisor was just for that reason - I had learned so much about what NOT to do! Then I proceeded to tell him that I was directly responsible for 10 different Airmen receiving 12 different medals just within the last 12 months. It was only a few months later that I received my first MSM as a direct result of this Cpt and his willingness to be a GREAT leader!
