So I got out of the Marines with honorable discharge. My reenlistment package was denied bc there were no more slots open. Now I want to go back but in the AF. I understand it's the most difficult to get back. Does anyone know any req or if I have to take a job that I did in the while in service?

I just made the leap! Finally got my orders last week! The process took 5 months. Find a recruiter who is willing to process for a prior service. What was your job in the MC? I came over from the Army. My recruiter was absolutely amazing! They were only authorized 153 prior service slots for FY 2020 so you may have to wait until next year just as a heads up. If you have other questions, let me know! There isn’t a lot of info out there because it’s kinda rare!

SrA Jessica F. Good to know, I'll start refreshing myself with the test. Did you have to go in to the same job field? Or did you choose something different?

Sgt Ezequiel Nazario I stayed the same job even though I scored an 81 on my new ASVAB! I studied my 4th point of contact off for it!

Sgt Ezequiel Nazario it could have been given my ASVAB score and if they did not accept my direct duty request but they did so I’ll stay in it and make it work for me!

So I was able go find a recruiter available to help me with my situation. Well.. he was real with me and made it clear that its not easy. Probably have to wait a year for direct duty option. Retrain option is basically a no go for air force this yr.

I can definitely appreciate that he was honest with you!!! So be thankful for that! If you want to do it though, start working on it now and have all of your ducks in a row because you just never know when they will open the prior service program again. This year it was about a week before the fiscal year flipped. The stars aligned for me but I also had to work my tail off for it so if it’s what you want to do then go for it. If it hadn’t worked out for me I would have just gone back to the Army so have a backup plan too!

SrA Jessica F. Yea he seemed genuine. Plus I use to work at a recruiting station HQ for admin and ops, so I understand where he is coming from. Regardless, I told him I'm willing to wait and start the process. My other option is army too. But air force just seems a right fit for me.

SrA Jessica F. For anyone reading, he did mention specops is always getting ppl. So if you can pass all the prerequisites, you're pretty much set to take it.

Have you considered the Air Guard? Or do you only want Active duty? When I transferred from the Navy there was a waiting line for Active and Reserve slots. Air Guard did not have a wait time for my state.

I really want to go active but if there is no other option I might have to go Air Guard. How long was the wait? A year?

From MEPS to swearing in was three months. The AFSC that I wanted was open so it was very easy. The Air Guard has a website that shows the type of positions at the local base close to you.

Word to the wise any VA claims or medical issues will be the biggest thing that will slow you down.

Wow that seems pretty fast! I'm willing to wait or do anything just to get back in the military. I dont believe I have anything pending with the VA. Hopefully it works out. Appreciate the feedback!
