Fast tracking also means a Soldier who progresses through the ranks surpassing his/her peers at a quick/fast pace (usually get waivers for all promotions, and excel and volunteer for additional training which helps them to attain the rank of SGT, SSG and SFC in a short time period...

Fast tracking is oftentimes referred to career progression. Usually when one does become a DS, they typically are sought after and stand out more than their peers, due to the prestigious honors of being a DS. That in part usually sets the individual apart from others as far as discipline and the willingness to take on more than that which is demanded of him/her (i.e. training soldiers, being a leader or role model...). So you 1SG is simply telling you that your interest in becoming a DS is a great (fast) step in your progression in the ARMY. Also, the disclaimer also is that just because you are, if you become a DS, that things will be handed to you because they won’t. It is also not the essential part of accelerating through the ranks, one must know their job and possess the ability to lead. I’m sure others will chime in but I hope I have you somewhat of a understanding as to what the 1SG meant.

It is unfortunate, however, that becoming a DS isn't by choice anymore, but by random selection. I wonder how much more improved the military's training system would be, if it were staffed by DS that were actually excited about their jobs and wanted to be there...
