Can my unit refuse to pin me even though I have already met all of the requirements?

I made the list for e-5 on December 1st of this year. I already attended and graduated BLC as well, thus I have obviously already attended and passed the promotion board. My ERB already states that I am a SGT as of DEC 1st. However due to a recent surgery, I was out on the day I picked up automatically and therefore have not been pinned yet. I will be out for an entire month. While I am not flagged for anything and as stated above, have met all the requirements to get pinned.....can my unit refuse to pin me due to being a a temporary profile due to having surgery? Or do they pretty much have to pin me because I've already met all the requirements? No one has said anything about not pinning me once i return for convalescent leave, I'm just asking out of curiosity.

Look for promotion orders in your HRC portal. If you see them, go ahead and communicate with your unit and schedule a time for the leadership or whomever you wish to pin you. Congratulations by the way! Most importantly, I wish you a speedy recovery!

I would wait until I returned to my unit since many leaders want to do it right have family present , take pictures etc to make the event memorable. Also I would keep contact with my unit to see what they want to do. As a wise old MSG once told me as long as you are getting the pay be happy.

We were expecting an E-5 to be our new squad leader. SSG Leharault (luh row) showed up with his E-6 rank and said he had his father pin him.
I thought that was pretty cool.

I am hoping to one day pin my youngest son when he earns SGT, my advice to him will be do your best to keep the stripes and don't be like your dad :) I will also tell him that no matter how toxic your unit is, make your small part of it better so you can take care of your troops and shield them from the bullshit as best you can.

I had a buddy get promoted to pfc (e-3). Unit couldn’t find the orders but he got paid as such. Six months later he got a waiver for spc. Magically off orders came in, got pinned, did thirty pushups. Got pinned spc. Did ten pushups. Was told he had to do forty. He said he did, thirty plus ten is forty.

Pin yourself. I picked up 5 on PCS leave, showed up with stripes sewn on. Confused the unit who thought they were getting a SPC, but they changed the paperwork and drove on.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - Sir I agree. I pinned myself to CW3 because I was on PCS leave to a new unit. Orders were already amended prior to sign into installation. Since he is coming back to the same unit most likely be back after Christmas. Congrats and you will get it no prob once you return.
