SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL Napoleon Bonaparte was obviously clueless about lions although he understood dogs. Lions are many times the size of dogs and male lions have a harem of female lions while dogs run in packs.

Napoleon Bonaparte certainly inspired his men to fight all over western Europe, attack Egypt and to attack Russia. It was amazing that coming out of the reign of terror in France, Napoleon was able to rally an army which shook the nations of Europe. Although he was short, Napoleon had a lion's heart.

Napoleon Bonaparte did indeed send his Army to Egypt - the most significant aspect of that adventure was the discovery of the Rosetta stone which enabled people to finally read and understand Egyptian hieroglyphics. The Rosetta stone is a dark grey granite slab three feet tall with a pink vein running through the top left corner, and it is carved with writing in three scripts: Greek, Egyptian demotic, and Egyptian hieroglyphic.
Of course Bonaparte was using a metaphor to describe the courageous and the lowly scum which was what many soldiers were in this days. Soldiers were largely conscripts who were kept in line with fear all too often. Napoleon was a genuine leader who inspired his soldiers to follow him to Spain, Russia, Egypt, Battle of Marengo in 1800, Battles of Jena and Auerstadt in 1806, Battle of Borodino in 1812, and Battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo in 1815 and so many more.
