Such claims of suicides among veterans is a favorite theme of leftists and politicians that has been denied and disproved by responsible organizations, both civilian and government. Yes, we have had veterans take their own lives, generally at comparable rates as those who have not served, but the left makes the claim because veterans are generally honored and respected by the general population. Doesn't make the same impact as the suicide of some individual who has accomplished nothing in their life that deserves respect.

In CALM (Counseling on Access to Lethal Means) we learn that there are way more suicides by firearms than homicides. So, its not just service members that are suffering. This is an epidemic that is perpetuated by misinformation and an avoidance society. Suicide and depression are two different things. So, we need to stop thinking that if someone is not depressed then they are safe from suicide. Also, 81% of suicide attempts never sought any kind of mental health treatment. We need to stop relying on the MH staff to save our society. We need to get educated and start giving a shit about those in our viewpoint.

I am looking for grants to apply for to provided safeTALK and CALM training to as many populations as I can. If you have any information that can help me, please let me know.

Side note, I believe military suicides are rising because we have provided so many services and told our service members they have to refer people to them that they stopped caring about being a friend to someone. They just refer, refer, refer. Pass the buck. The Air Force is leading the way in suicide prevention yet they had a huge rise in suicides-being the the service to raise the rate across the DoD.

Many of the suicides are older veterans and veterans who have no connection to the VA. We need to improve the full spectrum of standardization of care for those who are afflicted with PTSD. Case in point, units might allow a soldier to focus on care, units might treat them as average Joe's who need to keep working, units might focus on chaptering the soldier. If it is an assembly line, the product will often be different due to the lack of standards on the assembly line.
