I got to see a lot of "Art" in the Churches over in Europe. One of them was this Statue of Saint Teresa being stabbed with an arrow of "divine love." It is in a Church in Rome...and the other picture is the Altar in that same Church.
The sculpture is considered to sensual by many people. Even when it was first displayed, Folks were shocked.
The Artist (Bernini) was flabbergasted that people were offended by the look on her face -which many took to be somewhat orgasmic. He said he was just taking her actual words of the Vision she had, and made it visual.
Three is a lot of History behind this statue, and maybe an Art Historian can elaborate on it. One of the many things that led to the Protestant Reformation, where these elaborate, even ornate, churches, altars, and statuary.
But one thing still stays the same- the doggone thing is beautiful.

Yeah, I don't get all of them tho. One time I went to the Gutenberg Modern Art building in NYC (and the building itself is Art) Some Artist had put a carpenter chalk string from one corner of a room to the ceiling corner of the other room. He called it: "Diagonal." I missed whatever point he was making. LOL

SGT Kevin Hughes it was "Diagonal", hahaha! Very good point. I am sure back in college, if this was a test question, I would have flunked the test.

Yeah, Gene, in my History Classes, they explain how Churches like that one were partially the Reason for the Protestant Reformation. But they also explain how they were sort of a glimpse of Heaven to the regular common people, who came in a Church and saw more beauty and glory than they would in their everyday lives. So yeah, both sides are right....sort of. Because, if I remember right, Jesus never built a church. In fact, I think if I recall my teachings...you just had to be around other believers and that was a "church."
