I had an interesting situation when I retired, everything was being prepared to address me as MSG. I informed personnel that everything should be recorded as 1SG. After being ignored I got a “little” upset, especially when someone remarked that it didn’t make a difference. Long story short, everything was changed to 1SG.

Considering the aggravation a 1SG goes through its not to much to ask to keep your title when you retire. You earned it so you get that respect.

You retire at the last rank held. It is not hard to do transition of authority effective the date you go on transition leave.
