Spent quality time with my Gator gun today. It is not used to hunt gators, it rides in my Gator ! Ruger American Ranch in 5.56 mm.

After that rifle, get the Ruger in 308. Found it on sale for under $300! Some guy from up North. He had a new gun store I guess. Bought it off the internet, had sent to my FFL dealer.
