On the topic of Guns with Silencers, How many of us older Vets would not have tinnitus and hearing aids if "silencers" were SOP at the range?

SGT James Murphy - A buzz for phone dial tone, with a constant ring, seems to be about a G chord. They have an aid for tinnitus, but it's expensive. VA won't approve it for tinnitus due to Meniere's Disease. I've spoken with the mfgr. and the NCRAR in Portland. Dead end.

CWO3 (Join to see) - Try going to a Civilian Doctor and see if they can put in a request for the VA to cover it??

SGT James Murphy - Due to cost, the mfgr and VA don't recommend it for Meniere's, even though that diagnosis is a guess. It's still tinnitus but this may be a dodge to prevent handing these $4000 items out. Doesn't matter what Dr. recommends it, they ain't going to buy one. No surprise since tinnitus is at the top of the list of ailments with Vets. There are other options such as injecting steroids into middle ear, and two levels of surgery on the head. All they do is (hopefully) silence the ringing, at a cost of basically killing off whatever hearing remains in that ear. I just try to ignore it. Soft music helps.

The technology for suppressors is just now breaking into the realm of possibility in regards to becoming general issue. I agree that it could help protect against hearing damage but it all depends on the context. Not every weapon system is capable of using or being fitted with a suppressor. And with as much ammunition that is cycled through during some training evolutions I don't think the suppressors would make it through without receiving damage or overheating.

Suppressors aren't really made for high number of rounds. Their more a back yard convienience for some of us with Liberal Idiot Neighbors that don't like us killing of garden pests. I have a Garden. Not for me and my family not for the critters, although I don't net the Rasberries as I do allow the birds a little snack. 8-)
