Goodbye Books.
Goodbye Library.
I will always miss you.

When I read through (or watch) Posts that Chip, David, Bill, or Marty - et all Post with Science, History, Math, Biology, Physics, the Brain...or a host of other subjects; I am a little saddened.

Why?

Because when I lost my home (my fault...don't make stupid financial decisions late in life. LOL) I had to give away my Library. It took four pick up loads to take them all away. Funnily enough, not many people wanted them.

I was able to donate 647 Non Fiction books (in the pictures above) to two libraries. And I got three local High Schools to take sixty three of my Hard Science books that were less than two years old.

Two small Bookstores took most of my paperback and Hardcover Science Fiction books (a bit over a thousand or so) and my entire collection of Louis L'Amour Westerns, a guy actually bought from me for $2 a book...so that brought in a couple hundred needed dollars. LOL

Sadly, I had to put tables up with hundreds of books on them, because the Libraries, Schools, or Bookstores wouldn't take them. I just put up a "Free to a Good Home" cardboard sign and left them all in the front yard before we moved out.

I am glad to say, that by the end of the day...every single book, two tables and twenty boxes full, gone to some lovely new home.

I miss my books. Five years without a library. And then I think about those folks out in California who's homes burnt to the ground with every picture, gift, important paper, book and memory - gone.

At least I had a choice, and it was only my books that I lost, but someone else got to read.

And I am grateful.

Kevin, sorry to hear about your books and your situation. I love my library too. It sounds like your library has a lot more books than mine. Hopefully you will find a way to start a new one at some point. All the best.

Hey Jeff, that was six years ago...and I still have managed to accumulate another 100 books - hard copy; and another 120 on my Ipad. LOL I like our new downsized situation...like everything in my life, the worst events turned out to be the best for me. We would never have lived near our grandchildren with the old financial situation...and now my Kathy, my daughter, and my grandkids have built a relationship you usually only find in StoryBooks. And of course, they all think I am funny. LOL
I was just missing my library that day...as one of my favorite signs in front of a bookstore says: "Nobody misses the smell of an old kindle." LOL

I have a small library at home, not as many books as what you had, but a few, both military and civilian books.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - yeah, if I had kept mine, my daughters would have chosen their favorites, but they live in tiny places, and like me, they have a bunch of books already. LOL And passing them on to your grandson- perfect!
