I have both...my 30.06 model 7400 is appr 39 years old and still shoots like new and I still hunt with it. My 308 is 3 years old and it is pretty awesome as well. both get the job done but I am partial to the 30.06 because when you hit a deer with that, there is no or very little tracking...they usually drop where you shoot.

CW5 Jack Cardwell - I don't have a .308. It would be an M-1A if I got one.

They both get the job done, but I tend to go with the .308. Nothing wrong with -06, just mine are surplus rifles and I won't scope them, where as my .308 is a plastic stock pre drilled ready for rings set up.

I hunt with 308, always have. Used the same rifle since I was 16 (41 years). I think it is a great all around caliber for deer, elk, bear.
