Team,
The Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) is a new unit that is going to make an impact making and a difference on a global scale.
The SFAB will soon be commanded by an Security Force Assistance Command--what does this mean? It will be an enduring venture. It is not going to be here today gone tomorrow.
DRILL SERGEANTS AND RECRUITERS--you are already a cut above your peers and doing awesome Force Generation. SFAB can get Recruiters and Drills off that special duty once you complete 2/3 of your tour. Recruiters this means we can get you out once you complete 24 months; Drills the math is about 18 months. Be advised, the SFAB is going to be hard work as well...do not come if you are trying to escape work.
Borrowed Military Manpower (BMM)--we are not involved in BMM, Zero takings and none expected due to short operational timelines. So what? You can train more to attain new levels of preparedness and readiness.
Promotions from SPC to SGT--SPC (P) will receive 799 points once graduated from the Military Adviser Training Academy (MATA). This pertains to all MOSs. All NCO ranks will have their STEP requirement deferred if that is what is holding them up from promotion. For example, SSGs must meet their cutoff score...once a SSG meets their cutoff score, they will be promoted regardless if they have completed ALC. All must eventually graduate the NCOPDS requirement, but every level of NCOPDS from BLC to USASMA can be deferred.
Special Duty Assignment Pay (SDAP)--all enlisted members of the SFAB that complete the MATA get $75.00 dollars a month while assigned to the MATA.
Assignment Incentive Pay (AIP)--all enlisted will receive $5,000 dollars to volunteer.
Assignment Preference--once your tour is done in the SFAB you will have preference of your next duty station. Be mature about this statement--there must be a spot for your MOS at your grade level to get an assignment there. If you want a small post where there are no infantryman and you are an infantryman than your chances of getting a job there is slight.
STEPS TO JOIN:
Go to http://www.armyreenlistment.com/sfab.html and use the example DA Form 4187 and SF 600 and fill them out. Your LTC commander signs 4187 and your primary care medical professional fills out their portion of the documents.
Send the docs to [login to see]
There is no need to go to your branch managers initially. Send to above email address once you complete both docs.
You can see the list of MOSs that are needed on http://www.armyreenlistment.com/sfab.html.
See this link for a testimonial of several Soldiers (note: at the end of the video it tells you to contact your branch manager--do not overload your branch manager-contact [login to see] or [login to see] )

CSM my question is this what kind of unit is the SFAB? I grew up in the SOF community and know that I will have to come to the regular Army side of the house soon. What makes volunteering worth it over just going to any regular Army unit. I personally think being in this kind of unit would be amazing but my fear is that when I get there I will get very little home time, training opportunities, and I will just be another cog in the system. Please don't miss understand I am not home all day every day where I am now. My training and deployment schedule is tough but leadership makes down time a priority. Every single one of my battles who are in a regular Army unit tell me the exact opposite if they aren't in the field training they are at work until 1800 every day Mon-Friday doing mandatory training or cleaning floors. I guess my only real concern is this what kind of life will I have in this unit will I see my family very little.

Traveling right now. Great questions. I will response more in depth later. The biggest differences I will say now is we gave a screening process, take only volunteers, and we have no borrowed military manpower taskIngs.
I will expound later. Maybe better over the phone; would that work for you?

SPC King,
Sent you a message. I think what would best is to put you in contact with the BDE S6 NCOIC—can you PM me your email or number?. The OPTEMPO May be fast as due to all the training we have to do. I believe your position is not an advisor position. I will have to check.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops. I've got two deployments doing mostly COIST related work and I'd love to get another deployment to Afghanistan to work in an advisory role. In the meantime my braces will leave me less than able to deploy until my DEROS. I probably will volunteer towards the end of my OCONUS tour unless I apply for warrant.
Thank you for sharing this info CSM Lewis!
