During lunch today a few of my co-workers and I were talking. I'm new to this company and so they were asking me about my time in the service and whatnot. One of the guys had an interesting question when he asked me where was the craziest place you slept. After 8.5 years, I had a list of some interesting places such as the hood of a HMMWV, in a foxhole, and in one of Saddam's closets in Mosul. With all nights we spent deployed I thought it would be a fun discussion. So RallyPoint, what are some of the craziest places you bedded down in?

Sleeping on bales of concertina wire in the back of a 5-ton dump truck on the way out to the field at Fort Campbell. I was wearing MOPP garments without the mask which took the brunt of the razor cuts. After you get past the razors, the spring action of concertina wire makes for a very comfortable rest.

Duct taped in my sleeping bag to the main gun of an M60A3 tank elevated over the back deck. It was my first field training exercise in 2/34 Armor Alpha Company as a new private straight from OSUT from Fort Knox it was my welcome to the unit and my tank crew I took it made the best of it even fell back sleep hanging there.

SGT William Howell I imagine that was quite a sight. On a more serious note, it is awesome that you would do that. Depending on the age of the puppies they were probably scared out of their mind. For someone to make sure they weren't alone, and give them that security: Well done sir!

There were tons of people that had found places for their families, but they would not take pets. LSU took these animals in and then it went from those to animals that were left after the storm. We had cats, dogs, horses, pot belly pigs, lizards, pretty much you name it. PETA tried to come in and cause trouble and that was what us MPs were doing there. We would do a couple days of puppy patrol and then we would go to New Orleans for a couple days of real patrols. The people of LA were awesome. I was never more proud of being a solider than during that time. They made us feel like heroes, even though they were the real heroes.

CW4 (Join to see), SGT Ben Keen, Funny true story. In Nam one of the cooks fell asleep in the poop tent. A Chinook came in to drop a water bladder and while doing so the rotor wash knocked the poop tent over with the cook inside. We were dying laughing at that, but then when he crawled out from the tent, he had poop all over him and nobody would help him, we were rolling on the ground.

SGT (Join to see) - The closest I've seen to that was in Kuwait in 2003 when another E5 dropped his pro-mask into the port-a-john then pulled it out just in time for the air raid siren to go off. Either way you almost feel sorry for them but at the same time you can't help but laugh. LOL

SGT Ben Keen, He was one of our friends, but we hadn't laughed like that in a long time. He even still had his cooks hat on but it was cockeyed on his head.
