Though I never served in a combat zone while in the Navy, I feel the experience of working the streets, fighting crime and experiencing the death of folks from many directions, allows me to have great empathy towards those who are combat veterans.

CPO Arthur Weinberger - I have been shot at and felt the sting of the bullet that clipped my ear. A real wake up call to the reality of life.

PO1 H Gene Lawrence - Closest I came to getting shot wasn't on a Police Department but at Da Nang, Vietnam in 1968 a single shot within an inch or so I heard going by My right ear and into a piece on canvas about two feet behind Me. It missed me only slightly and if it weren't for the canvas behind to break up My outline in a perimeter guard tower post I tend to think I may not have been here today. I used a starlight scope to try and figure out where the single shot came from but never figured it out but there was a bullet hole in the canvas backdrop .

Gene, I served in a combat zone (although not a trigger puller) and 3 decades in law enforcement. Lots of similarities except the 'job' is a slow burn as opposed to the intensity of the war zone. Long buildup of debris vs. short intense buildup.

COL wow, I mean wow! that is it accurate. As I think back I will say everything is raw, humor is not funny at all or the funniest thing ever, anger oh my God COL my head would literally go up in flames and my eyes hot, sadness/sarrow etc... whatever you want to call it, I would always try and find a quiet spot to be alone for several reasons 1) I wanted my privacy 2) our business was hunting bad guys so time and place put my game face on.

Wow Dance with the devil
