Do you read your faith's authoritative text (e.g., Quran, Bible, Talmud, etc.) daily, and if so, how do you keep on track?

I commit every year, at least a couple of times, to read through the entire Bible. I've read (and love) all of it, in sections, and in random order. Never made it through on a 365-day plan. Any advice or tips for how you ensure this remains a daily priority?

Most people read but do they actually study? As an example let me use Acts Chapter 10 - as a former member of the Church of Christ I was taught that this chapter was about doing away with the dietary law - upon studying it for myself and reading the WHOLE chapter in CONTEXT I found that it has nothing to do with being able to eat anything we want but it has to do with the Gentiles being offered the gift of eternal life - as Peter himself explains in verse 28 when he talks about "any man common or UNCLEAN".

Couldn't agree with you more, LT Charles Baird . Such a great example. Not only do you need to read 34 verses to really understand what God was revealing to Peter, if you finish the Chapter you get to see his awesome response in sharing the Gospel with those Gentiles. It's a powerful story of God teaching and working through his Apostle and a great pointer to the eventual outcome in Rev 5:9. To read through the entire Bible in a year, you inevitably have to read a couple chapters at a time, which I think brings that essential context to life. Thanks for weighing in, and for bringing my mind back to one of my favorite stories about Peter!

Do you really love ALL of it? The stoning of non virgin women at their fathers doorsteps, killing people who don't want jesus to be their king, and killing a group of children for calling a bald man bald all seem a bit disgusting to me and I don't see how anyone can actually love it.

Colonel, I bought a Reader's Bible for myself for Father's Day 2017, and I read a chapter or two every night before I go to bed. I also have two devotionals I read every night, plus whatever book I am reading, so the last thirty or so minutes of my day are devoted to putting good stuff in my head before I go to sleep.
