I think what it is that they want to relive and bring back the days of the old empire days. And the strategy in which they do it is to just ignore their neighbors and to continue their quest by building outposts and bases to protect their so called strategic assets like where the diaoyu islands in the south china sea area.

Also they are thinking ahead in the future for if a conflict already happens they will be prepared and better equipped to handle any threat that undermines their authority and sovereignty.

Sam Carter – Here's another perspective to consider: Xi Jinping is attempting to improve the quality of life of millions of Chinese citizens.

Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by poverty.
–Hardy's Razor [my take on Hanlon's Razor].

MSgt Ken "Airsoldier" Collins-Hardy while the concept appears formidable, I would pose that their man-made island fortresses (what appears to be the base of their Fortress Fleet) can be compromised by air superiority. Not only that, but range of our fleet's weapons would go a long way in to compromising this strategy, as well.
If I'm correct in my assumption (I know...I know...), instead of focusing on having a line of actual battleships forming a "Great Wall" on the water, it appears that they are going to utilize man-made islands in the South China Sea as the backbone of this "wall" with battleships filling in the spaces.

MSgt Ken "Airsoldier" Collins-Hardy - considering that there is a desert on that side of the country, not much at all. Especially since the only neighbors are countries not exactly swimming in money.

A1C Nathan Roberts – If my memory serves me correct, the Chinese originally built the wall from East to West to keep out their northern neighbors of the Steppes, the Mongolians. China's current economic strategy is fixed on Xi Jinping's 'One Belt One Road' Initiative.

MSgt Ken "Airsoldier" Collins-Hardy - Yup. The Gobi was a good enough "wall" to deter anyone coming directly from the east. They have implemented a very good choke point on how things operate within country.
