I remember! Later when stationed in Okinawa I'd take a WSSI (Water Safety Survival Instructor ) Course. Doing survival swimming with hand a feet tied is no joke. Only Corpsman in class of Marines. All of us were < 25 yr. Even in February in a heated outdoor pool is cool with a 5 mile breeze off the Pacific when you are getting in an out of the pool it seems every few minutes.

Had been a lifeguard before navy so swim quails was fun for me while terrifying for others. At naval Hospital I had to train some nurses to swim. They want to be on a deploy-able medical team but they had to be class 1 swimmer. So I got take with get them be strong class 1 swimmers. Met with them 3 days a weeks for 3 hrs a day for 8 weeks.

They learned! Pulled no punches. Cut no slack! Was fun. They qualified and were proud. Very scared at 1st, but when I finished they were fish! Good feeling helping them!!! Yep, love the water!

Of course would have to really get back in shape to do hands and feet tied. But, helped granddaughter to learn to swim. She is a fish now.

CPO Nate S. First Tried to Learn to Swim at the YMCA, I was Too Young and the Teenagers trying to Teach Me were not Well Suited for The Job. Later My Mother got Me Private Instruction from a Police Officer who He and His Mother had both been Olympic Swimmers. Best Teacher Ever and Made it Fun. Needless to Say I had no trouble swimming anywhere anytime including Ken Lake. Did Pretty Good with Swim Quals but still hadn't seen Salt Water. First Time in Salt Water was Pensacola A-School. First Time in and I Got to Watch a Nurse Shark doing Figure 8's around My Legs. First Duty at CINCPACFLT where I Honed My Freestyle Diving Skills in Hannamah Bay. Nothing Makes Me Happier than Having a Dive Mask on My Face My Gloves and Diving Booties On (With a Big Old Bottle of MSG in My Dive Bag). Now My Dive Partners and Children going Swimming with Me Can Explain Swimming with Me Can Appear Hazardous to Your Health because I've Swan with Black Tip, White Tip, Nurse and Lemon Sharks, Sting Rays, Moray and Spotted Eels. My Last Big Oops was Swimming thru a School of Jellyfish Gulf Shores Alabama, I Had Tiger Stripes for a Week. LOL!

Thank you my friend PO1 William "Chip" Nagel for posting some relaxing swim qualification images.
Vaguely reminds of combat swimming training in full uniform with weapon at times and blindfolded at others. :-)
