A literal acceptance that the koran is the word of God is the seed that germinates ISIS, Al Qaeda, etc. So, how do we destroy this ideology?

It's simple, really. You do it the same way that you do it with Christians who believe that the Bible is the literal word of God.

Capt Gregory Prickett - In the case of the Episcopalians I thought their only problem with the Catholic faith was that they chose not to believe in the infallibility of the Pope when speaking on faith or morals- same translation -different opinion- I'll leave the other 40,998 sects to someone else since those that don't allow dancing or card playing or drinking coffee don't seem serious to me.

MAJ Eric G Troup - What scripture did the original apostles teach from? None of the books you mention were even around then, the earliest book was 30-40 years after the death of Jesus, written by an unknown author.

CPO Jim Cerullo - There are more differences than just that. Anglican/Episcopalian priest can marry. Anglicans have no central authority, individual churches have more autotomy. The Roman church recognizes 5 additional sacraments. Romans believe that Jesus was the only child of Mary, Anglicans believe that she had additional children.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - It ought to be pretty clear if you actually read what I wrote that I am against any violence whatsoever to defend Christ. Christ does not need any help from man. Any person that thinks they have God all figured out and that their Interpretation must be followed on pain of death is an arrogant fool or just a wannabe tyrant. All religious wars are thus stupid.

Exactly how can one judge that as right-wing or extreme?

On the other hand, I am soldier. If attacked, including based on religion, I will defend myself with up to deadly force. That is my God given right.

IMO Cpl Joshua Caldwell by making our core values so concrete that our youth don't go looking for acceptance elsewhere. Example: if my kids know they can come to me with and about ANYTHING, they won't feel the need to fill that void with another entity. It is human nature to feel like one belongs- to be a useful and valued member. If we make our youth feel that way, they won't look for that feeling elsewhere.

That is likely to end up producing atheists since the same emotional motivations are involved with all religions, not that I consider that anything but a good thing.

In addition to that. We also have to keep in mind that there is now an entire generation of kids over there, over seas in the middle east, that know nothing but the violence and fighting that war brings. From 2003 to Present is over 13 years. These kids could be taught or indoctrinated into anything and not know any better simply because of how they may have been brought up by the opposing factions. We are not going to see the end of the effects of this for a very long time.

Sgt (Join to see) - agreed, but still the baseline theory remains the same. If the person doesn't have an unfulfilled need, they don't go searching to fill that need. If the person feels that they "belong" and are safe, they don't seek refuge-that's all I'm saying.

We have to make it not worth fighting for. Their losses have to be so catastrophic that they simply give up. It will be bloody on both sides, but it's the only way. There will be no reconciliation or compromise until it is all over. It sucks, but it's the world we live in.

MSG (Join to see) - I truly believe there is little risk on American soil. Some attacks my happen but the chance of it impacting me or anyone I know are miniscule. The numbers are what they are.

As for people overseas, the problem becomes once we start going down the path of wholesale slaughter to try and stop a religious ideology who exactly is it we are trying to save? It sounds like we may be talking about going down a path where the saving that population will need is from us.

SPC Kevin Ford - You are correct as to the risk here in the States. Right now you are 8 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist, and that includes domestic terrorists.

SPC Kevin Ford - so as long as nothing troubles you personally, you don't really care. Fair enough. How American of you!

MSG (Join to see) - No, I just try advocating for a response that is proportional to the actual risk, not based on our irrational fears.
