This question is for all RallyPoint members, active, reserve, guard, vet and retired!

Do you wear your dog tags daily? Only when your deployed? Only since you got out?

In my own service it is unusual for SM's to wear their's daily. Often they are kept in the mobility folder.

TSgt Joshua Copeland, the answer is no. However, I still have the original dog tags that I was issued after I reported to the reception station at Fort Jackson on 28OCT69!
SFC William Farrell, in other correspondence, we talked about liking old things. I keep everything!

Issued in Boot Camp 1957, lost them 1958 after being assigned to my first boat (submarine). The purpose is meaningless when you are at the bottom of the ocean.

Completely true, MCPO Roger Collins! Fortunately though, for you, your family and the RP community, you’re still topside!

LTC Stephen C. - My sister just mailed us some old photos and such. My twin brother says to me it cost Jean $24 to mail stuff to him and she could have just waited til she saw him. I said I got a couple photos. He says I guess she considers me the family historian/caretaker! He's just a pick rat as evidenced by this. Him and I both paid our way to Nam but I have no idea where mine is!

I not only wear mine everyday (not just because of "new" rules), I spot check my Soldiers...professionalism begins with NCOs doing what's right.

For the 5 years I called Fort Drum my home, I never took them off unless SOP required me to do so. Even now, 20 years since I left my home at the Triple Duece, I still do unless I absolutely have to remove them. Deeds Not Words!

SGM Quick, off topic, but if you could, can you relay to my brothers in the Triple Deuce I still remember them and pray for their safety every night? DEEDS NOT WORDS! God bless and may you all stay safe...

I don't know if you consider this a comment, but I am a director of nursing at a nursing facility and have veterans that we take care of. Some wear dog tags, some don't, but I have one that I would like some facts about dog tags to give to my staff. He has stated that he doesn't "feel whole" if his dog tags are not around his neck, but I have one staff member that insists on taking his tags off during the night due to her concern that he will choke himself. Is there someplace you might be able to refer me to to locate particular policy or procedure regarding the wearing of tags, or is it strictly serviceman choice? I would appreciate any assistance you are able to provide, and can be reached most easily at [login to see] . Thank-you for all that you have provided to myself, and my family, with your service!

You can't lose something you're always wearing. Well, it's a lot HARDER to lose something you're always wearing. Unless my 3 year old wants to play "daddy" then he puts them on and runs around the house with my tags and Camelbak.
