I got out of AIT a few months ago and I started at a reserves unit in PA. I transferred to TX this month to a new unit, and they want to send me for deployment. I am wondering if anyone knows the regulations for how long after training and/or unit transfers you can be deployed? Thank you!

The Army Reserve mobilized me before I ever met anyone from my unit in person.

I knew guys that hit Korea and Iraq right out of AIT, so yeah it can happen unless you're on dwell time from a previous deployment. If this is your first deployment and first enlistment, embrace it. You might even be able to do virtual BLC while deployed and you'll come back with some fruit salad.

Now when I deployed I transferred into my unit voluntarily and I had to sign a waiver because of how much short notice I had. Of course it was my intention to deploy. I don't know if the Reserves have that same waiver as the Guard, but I would look into it if you're dead set on not going. That said, I would plan on having to go.

Yes, they can do that. The needs of the service and mission always come first. We spent a weekend in port after 2 - 6 month shipborne deployments to respond to Haiti July 94. I was in receipt of PCS orders to Camp Pendleton from Camp Lejeune with report date during August while we sailed for the response. The Sec Nav extended all sea pay as if it were just a port visit in US, but it was a hassle with pending sale of house and move. The CNO and CMC with staff visited us on different days as morale warranted it. We joked that the Key Wives could have seized Haiti due to the situation. CNO ADM Mike Boorda, and CMC GEN Carl Mundy and a lot of other GOs in COC. I negotiated a one year tour on Oki once we returned to Camp Lejeune from Haiti. They later rescued USAF Capt O'Grady on their next deployment in a TRAP mission. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24th_Marine_Expeditionary_Unit
