Question about transfer?
I am currently. On year 4 of 6 with the national guard. And was wondering about tranfering to just army reserve unit to not have to worry about state activation. I just wanna finish my time and get out. I am a civilian law enforcement officer and do twice as much as guard unit does. Is there a way to transfer?

You will be at risk in the Reserves to federal activation.

No matter if you go Reserve or Active, you will need to get a Conditional Release (DD form 368) signed by the first General in your chain of command. The first step would be to talk to an Army Reserve recruiter to see if he can find you a home, at which point he should initiate a Conditional Release. Depending on your unit, the Conditional Release can take several months to work it's way through the system. You can ask your COC to allow you to hand carry to the location of that first General in your COC, it's generally easier to get one signed off in person.

I'd take a look at some similar discussions too. Here's one: https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/how-hard-is-it-to-transition-to-the-army-reserve-from-the-national-guard
How hard is it to transition to the Army Reserve from the National Guard? | RallyPoint
Out of curiosity I'm wondering what the transition would be like going from the Army National Guard to the Army Reserve. I know sometimes you may have to reclass but what was the result of it for those that did that? Is promotion better? What about getting some AGR positions or deployments?
