RP Members and Connection - Transition for our Service Members is such an important topic.
One of our prominent leaders, writers, and publishers of information as it relates to Transition is SSG Eric Burleson! Here's a quote from Eric on todays article!
"I wrote today's post with more than a little anxiety. The subject matter, our internal voices and how they undermine us, can easily come off as something other than it is. Another fear my internal voice likes to stoke is that I'm the only one that suffers from these things, and my whole reader base will unsubscribe because it's just too strange.
I know that the critical inner voice is common to the human condition. I know we all struggle to subdue it and limit its control of our lives, and that we are all sometimes more successful than others.
That doesn't stop it, though. Even as I write this, it's telling me to write about something else. "Don't be such a downer. Nobody wants to be reminded. You're going to screw it up."
No. This is a critical topic and it needs to be addressed. Staying silent only gives it more power, and I won't let it control my life anymore. Today I talk about how to draw the line with your critical inner voice and demand freedom. It's worth a few minutes to begin the path to liberate yourself."

The inner voice leads all men; however, training yourself to listen carefully and to put into practice only safe activities. Boredom, fear, and anxiety are slave trader emotions for many people, and we all need to lighten the impact these negative emotions bring. Self-talk can become an encourager, an enabler to overcome obstacles plus a net positive. We change our lives at least in part by changing self-talk to be positive and to realize that failure is a reality for all of us at various times but it does not need to quantify all of our behaviors. We change through directed small steps. Focus on what things are made of and view the contents of a given area. Monitor your breathing always; focus on calming yourself when emotions rise up; find a safe place in your thinking that you enjoy and can retreat to when you have trouble. Always be good to yourself and to your loved ones.

I have had both good and bad jobs since transitioning from the military over 10 years ago. Currently I can only get part time or on call type of jobs for the past 4 years now. I am lucky though because I stuck it out and retired from the military. Without this i would be let's say struggling even more with money. I could go back to college and get another degree but at almost 50 I think I have done my time. I already have a Master's degree but the job I was looking at want a different type of degree. Pretty soon my age will become a factor even for my part time and on call jobs. They are both physically and mentally challenging. Hopefully I can keep up with those that are much younger and sometimes smarter.

Our minds can play tricks on us, but I have learnt to dismiss the negative and only listen to the positive.
