When I enlisted in the Army National Guard I qualified for a $20k enlisting bonus for my mos. it’s even stated on my paperwork. I went to OSUT training April 30 and graduated August 17. I’ve done my on ramping for my unit back in September and have completed 2 drills with my unit. I’m yet to receive the first portion of my enlisting bonus, so I was wondering when I should receive it or about how long after on ramp.

Bonuses take time. They have to be verified and approvals have to be sent through your CoC and the pay system. 2 months isn't that long to wait in reality. I'd suggest you get with your Training and Readiness NCO's and see if you can get an estimated timeline from them. To be blunt, I think you're jumping the gun a bit by getting ancy about your bonus this soon, you literally just got to the unit.

Yea I have just been curious because they told me something at on ramp and I was told something else by my recruiter before I went to basic. I have no problem waiting :)

SPC (Join to see) best to learn early: get your info from a reputable source. The rumor mill and ‘my buddy said _______’ will get you more uninformed and in more trouble than hitting on the 1SGs Daughter will. I’d recommend seeing your R&R NCO.

SFC (Join to see) - No, it would be taxed as regular income, which still will total in that 25 percent range with Social Security and Medicaid include.

CPT Lawrence Cable - My last bonus payment in '12 says differently. Not sure how the new tax laws would work Sir. Either way, a big chunk will go right back in form of taxes, this we all know. Unless he's deployed, which I don't think he is.

It should be spelled out in your contract how the Bonus is paid. Been a few years since I was Active Reserve, but the typical bonus was half at the end of initial entry training, then the rest in installments over the enlistment period, usually at three years, although I have seen three and six. I would talk to my chain of command, starting with my squad leader and platoon sergeant, and have them check with the unit clerk or the Battalion S1 section. Making sure you get paid is part of your NCO's functions.

I forgot to add that I am supposed to get 50% of the $20k which I know is taxed. Then 3 years in I get 25% and at 6 years, the last 25%

When I joined AF Reserve in ‘70 I was so happy to join, I had people go to great lengths to get it so I could be in and still be in H.S. For
Senior year. I was just 17 when I signed Up and did BMT and had a short time to get back to start
Senior year.. I used the it’s like a part time job right . If we had a war, we had a war.. what’s more
Important ....our country !...
Did my drills did a few extended deploys. .. in spring ‘71 i went Active AF. I had taken a bypass Skt
Passes that a 100%.. graduates BMT a A1C.. To me the bonus was being in the Reserve !
