Man, where to start...
"The alarm bells were being sounded by experts in the media and Leading Democrats... including Joe Biden".
Yeah, right. What were we talking about pretty much at the exclusion of anything else in November, December, and January again? Oh yeah, impeachment. And that went on well into February. Also in February, Pelosi was telling people to go to Chinatown to celebrate Lunar New Year and in March Mayor De Blasio was telling people to go out on the town and see a show.

I think when the post mortem is being done, three things will be the chief focus on the federal level.
1. Testing. There were definitely issues with fielding an adequate number of accurate tests. I do not know the whole tale there, but my understanding is the initial tests developed were flawed and getting private institutions licensed to produce and analyze tests didn't happen right away. Also, scaling production of tests took some time that cost us valuable space to prepare for the worst. How did these things happen? I look forward to some analysis on that... when this is all over.
2. Travel. I think when it is said and done, we are going to find that a lot of our domestic spread was due to some of the significant events that occurred in this timeframe. The Super Bowl. Spring Break. Mardi Gras. Once those people went through airports in big hubs like New York, Miami, Chicago and Detroit, it got all over the place. The President was pretty swift in banning travel from China, and later Europe, and many critics were all over the airwaves calling it xenophobic and racist (leading to Pelosi's regrettable "go to Chinatown" sound byte), but much slower to deal with cruise ships and domestic travel. No doubt, business interests drove those decisions, and there will be a reckoning in the cruise lines and travel industry in the aftermath.
3. Medical supplies/ equipment. I think that what we've uncovered here is how the supply lines for these really work. The purchases are done under contract and are forecast to be steady. Then all of a sudden, the whole world tries to scale up their buys in order to prepare, and the industry simply didn't have the capacity to fill demand. Some things can be ramped up with less effort, like masks and gloves. Other things, like the ubiquitous ventilators, are more complex pieces of medical equipment that nobody had enough of and you don't just conjure up. How the President used the Defense Production Act has been the subject of scrutiny, but I would point out that there remains an issue with supply chain for components even if you tell GM to build ventilators instead of cars. Something the whole world discovered in March, and when you're in dire straits like Spain, Italy, China, Iran, and later the US was, everyone is trying to get the same stuff at the same time. Nor were you realistically going to have a mountain of such equipment in a stockpile somewhere. Some, sure. But millions of masks per week? Tens of thousands of ventilators? No. You won't. And you won't at the state level either. Realistically, you'll look at past events like ebola, SARS, and MERS as your guiding events. None of those even got close except locally in West Africa with ebola - which I was forward deployed working on - and the medical people in Accra and Lagos were overwhelmed there, too.

So there will be many that blame Trump for all this, and others that think Trump can do no wrong. But I think that the truth is much more nuanced. But I don't need the perspective of history to remember what was really going on in January, February, and March. It wasn't that long ago. Nor do I need a historian to tell me what is going on right now. I can see it every day. SO can everyone else who is stuck at home and have nothing better to do. With all the daily distractions of transgender bathrooms and Antifa and white supremacists and gun restrictions off the table, we are seeing behind the curtain.

For a quick political sidebar, what else happened in that timeframe was this is when the Democrats decided that all their diverse candidates were unworthy. They instead chose a dottering, clearly issue-having candidate to bear their standard, all while this was unfolding as an obvious problem, then crisis. Who they want as their guy is a dementia case. That was the judgement of the party establishment as they threw their support to Biden. And where has he been during this? Holed up in his basement, barely heard from except when he surfaces to babble incoherently. So as bad as the left will call Trump before, during and after all of this, this was their answer. He even has a #metoo problem.
Good luck in November with that.

Sir 1stSgt. Sir. I'd like to also mention that Cucomo had a chance to buy ventilators last year and was told they needed them if an emergency came up. He elected not to get them! Another thing, Trumpy inherited an inept CDC...they knew during the Obama adnmin. that they could not do tests if a pandemic arose. Obama knew it too and wanted to make changes that would have complicated the process even further...those changes were not implemented thank God however, they still didn't do anything about their failures. Then came in Trumpy...he fired some people in the CDC! Good for him, they needed to be fired! That is all, carry on...Ken

Many of us knew before he came down the elevator that should he make it, Drumpf would be the worst ever POTUS this nation has ever seen. No other administration, not even Tricky Dick's has produced so many criminal indictments. No other occupant of the Oval Office has ever cozied up to the Russians and other ruthless dictators the way he has. No other occupant of the Oval Office has yet to insult every ethnic group on the planet - except for whites. No other has insulted our fellow veterans as he has. It will take years to repair the damage this criminal administration has done to this nation.

Not surprised at all. This is predicted while he was running for POTUS by Bandy Lee and 27 other clinicians. See "The Dangerous Case of Donald J Trump".
