Pretty good stuff. I think one of the things these distilleries can do is highlight the contributions of black Americans within their companies histories. For example at Jack Daniels or Markers Mark (I don't recall which), they said that only recently they'd found that a black man had helped the founder produce the first batches of bourbon. Of course this man was left out of the story and was lost to history until recently.

You are referring to Nathan "Nearest" Green. He was the overlooked mentor to Jack Daniels. Since that time, Jack Daniels included mention of him in their origin story and there is a small craft distillery using Uncle Nearest name to promote legacy

LTC Eugene Chu - YES!!! That was it. Good stuff. This was back in 2008 so my memory is a little fuzzy. I'd be cool if JD made a "Nearest Green" old style whisky. That would be a great way to share his story with the masses.
