Thanks for reminding us that Jane Delano who rose to be the Superintendent of the United States Army Nurse Corps in 1909 was the also founder of the American Red Cross Nursing Service.
I was interested to learn that she was born in the decade after Florence Nightingale's groundbreaking work as the first female nurse in the Crimean war. I expect that Jane Delano was probably inspired by Florence Nightingale.
