Synopsis: Documents the activities of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions and the 9th Troop Carrier Command prior to and on June 5 and 6,1944. Shows "Shanty Town", near an English Village, that was built from glider shipping crates by the U.S. Troops that would soon storm fortress Europe. Shows the German defenses along the coast of Europe, including a German railway or railroad artillery gun (not firing). Shows troops on busses on way to a "sealed" airport to await orders to board invasion gliders.
Shows activities waiting for orders, writing letters home, painting invasion markings on aircraft and gliders, receiving French money, cleaning weapons, and attending church services. General Eisenhower with the Troops and final inspection of the Pathfinder Troops. Troops of the 82nd and 101st Airborne check gear, paint faces, and board aircraft. Parachute and glider troops land behind German lines in France on the day preceding the full invasion. Aerial views of Normandy Beach. Shows how fields were obstructed to wreck invading gliders. A Treasury Department trailer promotes war bond sales.

Thank you for sharing my friend SGT John " Mac " McConnell for sharing the Historic Archival Stock Footage from WWII June 5, 1944 of the paratroopers schooled to conduct a combat parachute assault with military gliders aircraft to interdict German ground forces from attacking the beachheads as they were being established on June 6, 1944 in Operation Overlord.

He knew that he was sending them into the mouth of the lion. That bothered him I am sure SPC Margaret Higgins .
