SGT (Join to see) great read and share my friend, wow this is of the most interesting!
Lucian King Truscott, Jr. was born in Texas in 1895. When he was 16-years-old, he lied and said that he was 18 so that he could attend the summer term of the state normal school in Norman, Oklahoma. He got his certification and worked as a teacher until the United States entered World War I in 1917, prompting Truscott to join the army. When he joined the army, he lied again, telling them that he was a high school graduate and had completed a year of college so that he could enter into officer training.

Yes SGT (Join to see) old-school cavalryman General Lucian King Truscott, Jr. was an honorable man who was awarded the DCS for heroism in WWI.
Brigadier Lucian King Truscott, Jr. was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, for valor in action in Sicily on July 11, 1943.
I am much more familiar with his grandson Lucian King Truscott, IV who authored Dress Gray.
1. He attended the United States Military Academy, graduating in 1969. In 1968, Truscott IV and other cadets challenged the required attendance at chapel services. Later a court case filed by another cadet along with midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy resulted in a 1972 US Court of Appeals decision (and upheld by the Supreme Court) that ended mandatory chapel attendance at all of the service academies.
2. He was threatened with being sent to Vietnam, so he resigned his commission about thirteen months after graduating, receiving a "general discharge under other than honorable conditions."
3. He is a member of the Monticello Association, the members of which descend from Thomas Jefferson, who was Truscott's great-great-great-great-grandfather.
4. Dress Gray the novel was set during the era of the Vietnam War. It was published in June 1, 1997 in the decade or so after AIDs devastated so many lives. Dress Gray was focused on the murder of a homosexual USMA cadet set during the late 1960s.
