Welcome to the Sunday edition of the “Colonel’s” VFV Motivational/Inspirational Quotes & Message of the Day!

Good “Sunday!” Morning “Band of Brothers & Sisters,” and all great connections. Welcome to the weekend from the “Colonel’s Foxhole” in The Woodlands, TX — 15 January 2023!

Today’s Message is: “Who We Are Day!” Why Not?

“Great leaders know who they are and what they’re about. Knowing who you are as a leader helps communicate the vision and mission. These leaders provide direction, show strength, and define their leadership style with motivation and inspiration. Great leaders that know who they are will rally people toward that vision through their actions. They know their purpose and truly who they are. As a leader, be who you are, focus on your strengths, and respect who you are!” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

My brother-in-Christ SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL I trust the LORD is gently healing your cardiovascular function and blessing you and each one you love.
I expect that you realize that each human being is precious to God since HE created the soul of each one of us in HIS image. While our soul was created woefully imperfect [based on our inheritance of original sin of Adam and Eve]. God views each of HIS own as sinless since we have been washed in the blood of the lamb. The sanctification by the Holy Spirit is perfecting our soul to be the perfect reflection of God for each one of us uniquely. No doubt you are aware that the perfect love of God is the only thing which conquers fear and hate. I pray that YOUR cleansing love shines uninhibited through each of us 'There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.' [1 John 4:18-19 ESV] my brother-in-Christ SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL

I pray for sufficient transparency and fruit of the Spirit love, peace, and self-control for each of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who reads this prayer or listens to it. Give each of us fresh eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart sensitive to YOU Holy Spirit. We may from time to time have a slip of the tongue, or appear confused yet those who love us, love us with our flaws. I am grateful that your and my character is rooted in the foundation of Christ. I hope and pray that you and I continue to focus on doing what is honorable, commendable and true. 'Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.’ [Philippians 4:8-9 ESV]

I pray that the LORD blesses each of us with discernment as we are faced with decisions especially when there does not seem to be a good choice available. I pray that you each have eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit is showing you and telling you. God loves us more than we can understand. HE is always available to take burdens from us. The yoke the world offers is loathsome. The yoke the LORD offers is perfect for each of us. 'Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’ [Matthew 11:28-30 ESV]

I pray that each and every one of us is content with our situation, status, and prospects for the near-term future. I am thankful LORD that YOU mature us and stretch each of us through challenges, periods of waiting, and periodic disappointment. YOU love us more than we can understand. As the Perfect Father, YOU discipline each of us, admonish each of us, and sanctify each of us by YOUR perfect love. ‘Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.’ [Philippians 4:11-12 ESV]

LORD, I lift YOUR adopted sons and daughters who are prayer warriors and intercessors to YOU. I pray that use each one of us to intercede for an increase of selfless love, the peace of God, compassion for the least, and grace for YOUR adopted sons and daughters throughout this nation as well as Australia, Canada, Mexico, India, Europe, Africa, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Central and South America. Let YOUR love bring the hateful to their knees in repentance. I pray that many of those consumed with rage will cry out to YOU for justice and YOU will deliver them from their hatred and bring them to confession and repentance.

I pray that you and your family members sleep well Sunday night and each will awake refreshed and healthy on Monday morning.

Good Sunday afternoon Kerry. It's already been "one of those days" but the sun is shining and although it's cold, I am going to get outside and enjoy it.
Who we are is an interesting concept to think about...we are our experiences, our thoughts, our actions, our beliefs, our heritage...so many pieces to the puzzle that make up a person...what do you think are the strongest/most important parts of who you are?

For most of my Life, i've lived for several Purposes. And, as each one came to an end, and in the final one ended, I'm not lost. But i have just memories and some regrets.
I would have done more to make my life enriched with more friends and experiences.. but as i am, i'm alright. I take each day as a day of Rest. Those days i do something, i do it to be active.
Most of my days, i just sit and watch TV with my dog, while my brother and his Fiancee go about their lives.
It's peaceful . But I'm lonely at times.

God’s Greatest Surprise
I cannot pretend to understand God, but this is what I see: People who have moved from one seeming success to another seldom understand success at all, except a very limited version of their own. People who fail to do something right, by even their own definition of right, are those who often break through to enlightenment and compassion. It is still a mystery to me, and will still be a mystery for you, even if you read this book to the end. The big difference—and it is big—is that you will hopefully be able to accept and even revel in this cosmic economy of grace. It is God’s greatest surprise and God’s constant disguise, but you only know it to be true by going through it and coming out the other side yourself.
—from the book Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps
by Richard Rohr

Saint Devasahayam Pillai
Image: Statue of St. Devasahayam Pillai at St. Xavier Cathedral, Kottar | Wikipedia

Saint of the Day for January 15
(April 23, 1712-January 14, 1752)

Saint Devasahayam Pillai’s Story
Neelakandan Pillai was born into an affluent Hindu family in 1712. As a young man he went into the service of the royal household in India’s Travancore province. Eventually put in charge of state affairs, Pillai became acquainted with Captain Eustachius De Lannoy, the Dutch naval commander who trained the king of Travancore’s forces. Their relationship awakened Pillai’s interest in the captain’s Christian faith. At his baptism in 1745, Pillai chose the name Lazarus, or Devasahayam in the Malayalam language. His wife and other members of his family were baptized at the same time.
Soon after, Pillai’s enemies convinced the royal court that he was using his position to force others to convert, leading to his imprisonment. European Christians in Travancore came to Pillai’s defense, urging the king to release him. After three years the king complied under condition that Pillai go into exile to a hostile territory. Though beaten and tortured almost daily, Pillai consistently responded with kindness, openly praying for his captors. Shot to death by local soldiers in 1752, Pillai’s body was transported to St. Xavier Church in Kottar. Later when his remains were interred beneath the altar, the site became a popular pilgrimage destination.
In 2012, Devasahayam Pillai became the first Indian layman not connected to any religious institute to be beatified. Ten years later he was canonized in Rome. His liturgical feast is celebrated on January 14.

Reflection
At the May 15, 2022, canonization Mass, Pope Francis said that the lives of the saints prove that holiness is not an unreachable goal accomplished by a select few but comes from acknowledging and sharing God’s love. Pillai, he said, exemplified the Christian call “to serve the Gospel and our brothers and sisters, to offer our lives without expecting anything in return, or any worldly glory.”
