It seems as though the Col snapped years ago and superiors really didn’t know how to handle him. Who knows the demons he carried inside or the events that lead up to this... sad indeed

There are multiple leadership failures here...incidents like this don't "just happen". His wife's friends and husbands probably knew of his abusive nature as well. Domestic violence is a dark disease that our national culture would rather cover up than deal with or get people the help they need. There is still hope for this family if they get the support they need.
