There are some unusual aspects to his "rack". He has a "Purple Heart" but not a bronze star for either meritorious service or valor. He has a Ranger Tab which means that he was "bad ass" enough at some point to graduate that school. His branch insignia indicates that he is still FA-11 as a FAO, however, he is not wearing the blue shoulder cord for the Infantry Branch. It is interesting that he is wearing the GWOT Expeditionary Service Medal instead of the Iraq service medal. Nevertheless, the GWOT ESM was awarded for Iraq up to 2005 so that is an appropriate decoration, but still unusual,

These things are "interesting " only if you dont know anything about awards.
■ Purple hearts are for injuries, not valor.
■ He is not in an Infantry bullet, so he cannot wear the blue cord right now.
■ He deployed in OIF 1, the OIF campaign medal didn't exist then. The GWOT-E was awarded then. .

Next time research, then type.

I believe it. I just think there must be a misconception that someone must have a valor medal attached to a PH. CW4 Guy Butler

I qualified my answers SFC Hasbun afterwards. I was not disrespectful to you personally or otherwise. Why do you believe that gives you permission to be dismissive to me? Leaders (NCOs) must first of all display military courtesy, if they expect it in return.

CPT (Join to see) - Perhaps you should have extended that same level of courtesy to the highly decorated, Ranger Qualified, Active Duty Lieutenant Colonel who also happens to be the nations foremost expert on an entire nation, it's customs, politics, government and it's people.
If he has the intelligence to be a key player at the National Security Agency, I'm sure he knows how to put his uniform together. That's a 10 level task.
You get don't get to throw uninformed "shade" at a senior officer in a blatant attempt to discredit him, and then get angry when more knowledgeable people point out the gaps in your weak attempt.

SFC Michael Hasbun - Please don't fawn all over an 0-5 just because he appears to be something special. No 0-5 is the is this nations foremost expert on anything. The foremost expert on Ukraine will be a dual PhD and either a GG 15 an SIS (probably retired), or some super brilliant fellow at Foggy Bottom. I have met many "experts" at CIA, DIA, FBI, JSOC, USASOC, etc., etc., ... and some are truly exceptional. Most of them are mediocre. None of the truly outstanding would ever allow themselves to become involved in such blatant political theater.
I am also not angry. I used to be angry a great deal, and will probably (on occasion) become angry again. What I will say that the tenor of your comments bring a certain degree of discredit upon the Senior NCO Corps. How will younger soldiers know how to behave, if senior NCOs are disrespectful towards officers? As far as what I might have said that was perceived by you as disrespectful, an officer senior to me will straighten me right out if he believes the same.
In closing, you consider him to be highly decorated? You need to spend more time at Ft. Bragg.

Okay, I'm a little confused as to what your point is. It's my understanding is that an FAO is not re-branched. Therefore he is still allowed to wear the crossed rifles. But since he's not in an infantry position, he is not allowed to wear the blue cord. Why are you looking for a BSM since he has a Purple Heart? He could have been injured in an event where such a medal like the BSM is not appropriate. And it is my understanding that those of us that received the GWOTSM and the ICM for the same time frame may choose which one we want to wear.

I stand corrected on the blue cord. However, you only receive the Purple Heart for wounds directly the result of enemy action. We both know that officers receive the BSM with the PH more often than enlisted personnel or NCOs. I will also yield the last point. Nevertheless he is also a self important little prig (I spelled this exactly as intended) who will most likely be discovered to have been dangerously close to a violation of the Hatch Act an if not acting as an "agent of influence of a foreign power".

Receiving a Purple Heart never automatically qualifies someone for any other medal.

This sort of post is exactly what is wrong with us. You jumped on something without knowing the complete facts and presented your "truth" as "the truth". A few seconds to collect your thoughts would have saved you. Let's face it, there was some SNCO assigned to help put his uniform together. I'm sure they scrubbed the hell out of his record to ensure his uniform was beyond perfect and only had on it what was allowed.

Maybe we all just need to take a second, look in the mirror and decide what is truly worth our blood pressure being worked up and what we can let go.
