Any guardsman or reservists that work in the oil field have any experiences with companies working around military orders?

It's my experience, that it is easier to get your unit to work around your job. With exception of things like school and annual training, which you should know the dates of way in advanced, you should be able to split out your monthly drills during the week. Just be honest and upfront with your unit, dont feel like they "owe" you anything, and for the love of God do what you say you will do
