I care, Sir! Hooah! We should have never left! We still have troops and bases in countries we defeated over 72 years ago in WWII (Germany, Japan and Italy) for a reason: In order to PROJECT our power and influence to help keep the world safe for democracy. These countries are among the most peaceful and prosperous not despite the US, but BECAUSE of the US. If we had STAYED in Iraq and Afghanistan we would be in a better position to influence activities in Iran, Syria and throughout the Middle East. If we had STAYED and then led a coalition to institute a Middle East Marshall Plan the ME would be peaceful and prosperous today. The reason this would work is the same reason the original Marshall Plan worked: commitment, dedication and resolve, American style! We need to go back to basics, support and train indigenous forces to do the heavy lifting and then STAY.

There are no doubt lessons from history on this. Between the Romans or British and their empires to the more peaceful impact of trade beside the violent Crusades, we can glean a lot about the impact of stabilizing with presence.
The problem comes with how civilian governments rarely have a stomach for answering to Johnny's (never mind Janey) mom, when that an IED took her child away. Until we have people that understand the long-term importance of such peaceful occupations, I don't think that any administration will get support for bigger picture visions.

Yes. Remember, when political and military goals are the same, we are successful (WWII). When they are different, we fail (Vietnam). Iraq and Afghanistan suffered from politicization, especially under Obama. Now? We shall see. There are a lot of military advisors to the President. How much will he listen?

COL Lee Flemming-Thanks for the share. Most people are mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted. Not to mention the multitude of homeland tragedies that have been occurring.
