The Governor's correct. And he's not the one that is required to comply with military standards - the General is. The Governor's a civilian and has no obligation whatsoever to comply with military standards.

I have steadfastly stated for years that I would much rather have a fat good soldier than a skinny crappy one. I think the Army has discharged a great many good soldiers because of the weight control regs. I always gave my soldiers great lee-way and the benefit of the doubt as far as weight control went. As long as they were genuinely trying to lose weight, I worked with them, even if it was not totally IAW policy.

I agree, everyone should have to maintain standards...unfortunately the military has always had multiple standards. It may just be me, but I remember a lot of personnel in the medical field that failed to meet standards, but it was always explained away as something ignored because of personnel shortages.

MSgt Danny Hope - Yes ... It was more a result of their chain of command not enforcing standards. The medical folks hated it when I came to one of their facilities. Let's just say that I was not shy about calling out failure to meet standards and failure to enforce standards. I had more than one memorable event with the medical chain of command. Not an indictment on all, but that career field seemed more apt than others to ignore the regs about appearance standards.

COL Jean (John) F. B. - Thanks for confirming that it wasn't just my imagination. I do have to be fair however, when ever I needed to be treated, I could not complain about the quality of care (most times)
