Lost me on the fourth paragraph, with NBC pushing a propaganda that has nothing to do with the story.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - I'm glad we have programs/options like this. Just don't like the unnecessary NBC propaganda.

I understand. I spent a good part of my career in the information warfare and while my concentration was cyberspace operations, I have found my way into the human perception side of things as well (psyops, military deception, media operations, etc...).

I get what you see in the article and I am just as much disappointed in the fact the media is incapable of reporting simply the facts, without inserting their opinions, assertions, or speculations. This is evident in the reporting and even more so in their choice of what to report, where they not only insert their biases (which is bad enough), but you can clearly see the inconsistencies when the potential reports challenge their biases. I've even seen it in the fact checking where some more obviously biased fact checkers will go out of their ways to add more context when something might be true/false in order to take away from the impact if it doesn't fit their own bias.

I see two elements here. What makes money - sensationalism (which I believe motivates a significant portion of leadership within the media and they are all guilty of it) and how can I report the news through my own lens and perceptions without incurring too much criticism (it used to be more subtle... or maybe I'm just paying more attention to the language used these days). On top of that you also have foreign influences playing on these biases too, trying to create divisiveness in this country.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - Well said, sir. I think the thing that concerns me most is the lack of critical thought on the part of many of the "great unwashed public". Sadly, I had to teach critical thinking to my children in spite of, and not in addition to, their public school education. Yes, it is the language used (or rather misused) these days.
