So individual experience may vary. Was OPFOR 1994-1998 back when it was decisive action type rotations. It was awesome. Field 2 weeks out of every month. Great opportunity to learn about soldiering. In those days we were the Krasnovian menace ala the 125th Guards Tank Regiment, 60th Motorized Rifle Division. Everyone hated us because we were that good.

NTC is not nearly as spartan as it used to be. More for soldiers and their families.

It looks like you will be an Augmentee. Don't know what they do now, but the Augmentees used to be three task forces Destroyer, Rampage, and Angel. Destroyer usually infiltrated a critical pass and held key terrain via trucks. Rampage were the dismounted infantry that came from the APCs. TF Angel would air assault into a key piece of terrain in the rear area or along a main avenue of approach and cause trouble for BLUFOR.

I often can't get back to discussions later. I do this when I need to come back to it. 4 years as NTC Opfor and it was glorious.

As you may have noticed, my profile photo is a Krasnovian Engineer :^). The OPFOR ought to have been good, they get to fight the same battles over the same terrain for two years, if my memory serves me right on the length of the duty for non Augmentee personnel.

MAJ (Join to see) - I always amazes me that it can literally be over 120 F during the day and drop to the low 40 F at night.

CPT Lawrence Cable - I was in 29 Palms for 2 years and the first night I was in the field I thought I was going to freeze to death!

What about the last night? That is the one that convinced me I was over-the-hill!

I was there 83-85. We had more injuries from rotation troops getting run over by there own vehicles than anything else. And it does rain; several times we had the main road wash out. You were stuck on base for several hours until the engineers could fill the wash out with sand and rocks. Had new housing, a good golf course. Also had plenty of water to keep plants green. Mostly we drank bottled water. Other water was pretty alkali and a lot of floride. I loved the base. Got transfer to Ft Sill, Meddac.
