I'm in the Ohio nationa guard which it's for 100% of my tuition. I owe the school about 20k from my previous semesters.. does the guard wipe that debt away (not in student loans but I owe the actual school tuition)

Thank you.

I pulled this from the Ohio website:

"If extenuating circumstances cause you to miss an Application Deadline, you will need to follow your chain of command with a written explanation substantiating late submission to request acceptance. Applications received after the deadlines are approved on a case by case basis."

My spider senses are telling me that the answer would be "No", since the reason you missed the NG tuition assistance application deadline (for those prior semesters) appears to be due to you not even being in the NG at the time. I suspect they won't pay tuition in arrears to a time when you weren't even on the team. With that being said, I'd keep searching for a more definitive answer though. Good luck to you.

I would say no unless you have student loan repayment as an incentive for your contract when you enlisted. My suggestion would be to contact the veteran's rep for your school you attend in Ohio and speak with them. There may be something they could do to remove this debt now that you would be serving in the Ohio National Guard as many states offer free tuition to members of their state National Guard.

I cannot say for the Guard but I know the reserve side most likely would be no, they only pay tuition assistance for the semester you are currently attending and keep a satisfactory grade, and they pay student loans if your contract has that in it as well. Student loans are paid by a % every year of satisfactory participation in the unit until the cap has been reached.
