SSG Robert Mark Odom for those of us that have had to navigate through two world's, we do have the thought processes that relate to fairness and equity based on scenarios. Whether we have to do twice as much to get recognition or whether we are confronted by resentments from our Negro community because we are not black enough, the stress to keep "balance" is ever present.

Thank you for that response, PO3 Phyllis Maynard . Most if not all "blanket" statements are inherently flawed. Not "all" police are bad. Conversely, not "all" police are bad. I have a favorite nephew who wears blue and I know the challenges that uniform faces. This does not excuse ongoing and pervasive racial profiling and injustices by the police. In fact, it is the responsibility of the "good cop" to turn in the "bad cop." Enough of this "only following orders" escape hatch. Poor neighborhoods don't need more police, they need more education. Double on on access to good food an healthcare before you double up on policing.

PO3 Phyllis Maynard My feeling is a lot of racism is rooted in politics. Judicial Districts politically drawn so the DA or Judge wins vs is reflective of people living in the district. Same with political districts. Mandatory sentencing is another political creation so that a candidate can appear tough on crime. One of the biggest items that should give every reader here pause for thought. Barry Scheck who runs the "Innocence Project". They find DNA evidence that proves the wrong guy is in jail and we have political prosecutors that refused to open the case again that insist they are right, so they can maintain what they perceive is a clean prosecutorial record. Think of that....let the innocent root in jail so the prosecutors record remains looking good......very appalling but it happens to Barry with frequency.

Right on so many counts. The system isn't broken - it was designed this way. Our job is to step up and do some re-designing.

Wow! Appears to be a straight arrow and what every leader should aspire to be. He elegantly speaks the truth that all of us who served know, but can’t articulate well. Godspeed Sir, we need you.
