How are Special Operations Forces still so misunderstood after almost 15 years in the spotlight?

Since 9/11 SOF has been pushed to the breaking point to confront and evolve to what the world faces. Even with all the evidence, press, and media the misconceptions continue to grow. Exercises of the unconventional and irregular type have taken place year round for decades to prepare the force. Statements like this from Greg Abbott aren't contributory to training value or constituent. Below are two articles of polarity looking at the same type of exercise. Thoughts?

Paranoia is actually a survival trait. It's one of our most powerful ones. A healthy amount of paranoia is a good thing. You should think everyone is out to get you. You should have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
You should also temper those things with rational thought.
Just because these particular exercises aren't about martial law, doesn't mean the next batch won't be. Just because we didn't fake the moon landing, doesn't mean we won't fake the mars landing.
I'm the first person to drop "tinfoil hat" when it's due. I'm also the first one to go "hmm.. that's an interesting thought. Let's research that, if someone comes up with a good fear."
Nothing wrong with TX Governor monitoring the exercises. Good for him. Alleviates the People's fear a little. That's part of his job.

In this this case I think the rational thought has taken a bit of a backseat and paranoia is driving the crazy train.

Paranoia like fear if it’s controlled is a healthy trait imo. It makes one aware. If either trait isn’t controlled it’s destructive.

1SG (Join to see) Just because they are in the spotlight doesn't mean that anyone really knows their true mission or what it takes to accomplish it. And one does not just go out and do PR for a Special Operations Unit. Politicians wouldn't understand even if you drew it in crayon for them.

The mission isn't hidden though and the PR isn't as hidden as you think. The SOF image commonly plays the main character in recruiting campaigns of all the services, especially the Navy.

1SG (Join to see) No, I agree, with the mission of public knowledge, There are parts and pieces that have been allowed to be broadcast. But I'm talking about why the Politicians and other mainstream media don't understand SpecOps is because they will never truly know what is exactly going on or the true mission. They get the spoon fed media worthy press release...NOT Mission Briefs. This is why they will never fully understand what is going on. The Freaks that create the Mass hysteria about SpecOps missions and DHS and FEMA death camps are always going to be there and yeah, I relate that to TinHat wearing loons.

I agree with there being some on Capitol Hill that are clueless but, as the war dwindles to what it is and scrutiny continues it has to be countered by information. The second part you mentioned is the real problem, the loons in tin foil hats are the ones who get the media attention since reporting the news has shifted more to what's provocative or entertaining.

Exactly... They pick parts that sell like old used cars on Bragg Blvd... they seem all hot to trot on the outside and are Pieces of Crap under the hood.

Just because it bears mentioning - Texas Sate Guard is not an armed force. Its primary role is disaster relief and search and rescue, with some secondary roles to "assist" the National Guard in the case of a declared emergency. They are NOT the same as the same as the National Guard, and this is not Texas mobilizing a defense force. I am fairly certain that the Governor isn't downplaying in calling this a liaison role.

But the Texas Guard is not funded by the state in weapons and Equipment. I was told by a member that they have to by all of there stuff. Helmets, weapons, tents so one and so forth. I may be wrong but if I am someone enlighten me. Don't think for one minute that those Texas State Guard is not or won't be armed!

SGT Bryon Sergent You're correct about the equipment, but if they are armed, it will be without the State's knowledge. They are not authorized to carry weapons.
