I am trying to write an initial counseling to set expectations for mos-t soldiers, especially those in a hold status. We are trying to utilize our mos-t the population to augment our cadre.
Per AR 612-201 and Tradoc 350-6
"Commanders may take advantage of the experience and leadership abilities of reclassified and PS Soldiers, and use them to augment their cadre." There is little guidance from the region as to what mos-t soldiers can an cannot be tasked with. Does anyone have experience, I would also love to hear someone from legal chim in particularly in the administration of counselings.

I suggest expounding on TRADOC 350-6, 4-13 d. (1)-(4).
Counseling example:

Your primary duty is to attend training and become technically proficient in your new MOS, and you will inform XXXX, if anything is interfering with that duty.

The Commander has recognized your experience and leadership abilities, and has decided to leverage that to augment the cadre. This opportunity will help further develop your experience and leadership abilities.
You will receive orientation and certification by the Commander/First Sergeant on TRADOC policy regarding leadership and treatment of IET Soldiers. Your proficiency in MOS subjects, common tasks (OTHER AREA ?) will be assessed and developed to enable you to serve as a demonstrator and assistant instructor.
Once you have been certified, you will assist with IET Soldiers under that oversight and at the direction of cadre.

Training and Orientation: It would be prudent to have a briefing book, slide show, use of any already available local or online training/briefing, and a quiz to assess the training and whether the Soldier meets the requirements specified by the Commander/First Sergeant. Career killer events should be emphasized, also. (Training and exam/quizzes provide documentation that a program exists, and it wasn't just some haphazard, hey you deal).

Consider some sort of recognition at graduation for those that excel.

Counsel should include the following. Do not be late. You can drink off duty. If you come to class work with booze in your breath you are in trouble. MI is a desk job generally. If you get over weight or fail a PT test you are out. Zero tolerance for drugs or DUI.

Roger that and our current counseling packet more or less states just this. The problem is we have a few mos-t soldier who are not in class being tasked out. They believe we are giving them "extra duty" while we are clearly within the regs to task them out. I'm just trying to cover all of my bases as the above stated regs paint a very broad stroke of what we can and can't task them with to "augment the cadre"

If you are posting here it means your SSG and Senior NCOs have completely and utterly failed you. Exactly what I’ve come to expect of the US Army NCO Corps, unfortunately. Good luck

Well, Sir, I'm sorry you feel that way but I'm not sure you've got the full picture. For brevity sake I did not give all the details. I myself am a MOS-T, a prior service NG at that (now AD). I have little to no experience in writing initial counselings. This isn't something that I've been tasked with, but something that I have taken up in my own rights as I see a serious need for it. Currently there is no standard set for MOS-Ts and what is expected of us while here, yet we are being utilized. This as you can imagine with the general attitude of lower enlisted causes some, for lack of a better phrase, "bitching and griping". Many of them see it as "extra duty". As our Mos-T hold population is ever changing our duties wax and wane and if we set the expectation on day one there are no "surprises". I haven't been "failed" by my SSG or Senior NCO as they have given me some guidance such as reviewing the counseling that I have written thus far prior to my presentation to the 1SG, while they also see this a teaching opportunity for an NCO that is lacking experience in this area as apposed to spoon feeding me the answer. I was more over asking if anyone who has spent any time in TRADOC, had utilized their Mos-T's to this extent and if they had a counseling statement that detailed their responsibility. I find it rather disappointing that you view the NCO corp in the fashion. It is not a representation of MY NCO corp, Sir.
