How to walk onto Ranger School from the Army Reserve (administrative issues)?

I am an Army Reserve JAG officer who would like to go to Ranger School. The chances of a reserved slot are basically zero, but I have called the ARTB and am told that there is a good chance that a walk-on will be successful in getting a slot.
This is easier for somebody in the active component when money and orders are less of an issue. My unit is unsure how to make this work, even if they were entirely supportive, since there would be issues of ensuring I could be on orders when I report to the ARTB and then those orders could be quickly amended after getting a slot. I have thought about going on short-term orders to "assist" a JAG office at Ft. Benning (just long enough to see if I can get a day zero slot in a certain Ranger class). The orders would then be extended for two months or so (maybe more to allow for a recycle) if I got a lot on day zero.
Does anybody have experience to know if this will work? Are there other ways to do a walk-on from the Army Reserve generally? I can't imagine I'm the first person to run into this problem.

When you show up to Ranger School they will ask you for your Ranger physical and your DD1610 authorizing you to be there. Walking on is the easy part, and they get a lot of walk ons. Just don't try to walk on during the summer when they are at the busiest season.

Reserves really can't just walk on to schools. The issue is that you will need the funds to go to school. If this isn't lined up you will not get paid and you will not be covered by Tricare. You will have to get your attrs manager to approve a walkon slot so they could fund it. Regular Army can just walk on because we don't have any additional costs associated with the school. Soldiers are already getting paid and most units have travel to RS already set up. I would recommend someone that works in your schools section. The question that your unit is going to have answer is "is it worth it?" For you it is but will Ranger School make you a better JAG and would it be worth the money. I wish you luck but Ranger school isn't one of those school that you try just to see if you can but I will say that I have known a F16 Air National Guard pilot make it.
