Traveling to Fort Bragg for 2 weeks to complete IDES/MedBoard processing. I am coming from Germany and have been informed that the process is pretty strict. What is the living situation? What is the uniform requirement? What does an average day consist of? What are the weekend days like? Just trying to get a grasp on the situation. Thanks in advance.

I went through the MEB Board process at Ft. Lewis, hopefully they follow the same protocols. Mine was very professional and strictly by your records. In my case they found a lot of discrepancies with my medical evaluation's and treatment to the point the MEB Board could not be completed due the PA's not properly documenting everything and finding more issues then was reported. the result was sending me back to FT. Riley and doing everything all over. As far as your weekends there up to you if you request a Rental Car. I am extremely happy with the board and their results but every case is diffrent

I'm truly sorry for your medical condition and pray it's not too debilitating. I had to get a MEB Board process done prior to my final reenlistment. Pretty sure it was back in 1998. Hearing loss was a P3 for many years. I must admit that I was scared shitless. My COL assured me my presence was not required. She along with several others wrote letters to the Board on my behalf. Luckily, my results were "Retain".

Stay humble and make damn sure you keep within the limits of your profile. Example ~ If it's a leg injury, you don't want to be seen running around doing PT. Good Luck in the process.

Thank you MSG. Unfortunately it's a back injury - most likely from Air Assault and 2 years of lifting patients on stretchers into an ambulance while working for EMS on Fort Campbell. Hopefully it will be an easy decision for the docs. We will see. Thanks again !

Back (and neck) injuries are tough. So much legit damage cannot actually be physically proven. My VA rating includes neck and back (10% each) issues. It's documented so should I experience further issues I'm covered. Your saving grace is the results of the MEB are pretty much all the validation the VA needs should it go down that way.

CPL Smith made a good point in this thread. There is the possibility of a reclass should you want to and of course, the Needs of the Service.

Keep us informed of the progress!

SGT Callis, make sure that you keep copies of all your medical records and the results from your MEB. You will need the documentation should you, I mean when you file your VA claim. Be patient with that. The VA process is a timely one.

I was medically retired in 2015 at Bragg. I served my whole career at Ft. Bragg, so I have little other experience. I still reported to my command then went about making and keeping appointments. The IDES system is fairly streamlined in that they check you in, give an introductory briefing, and hand you a folder with a checklist complete with addresses, phone numbers and real points of contact.
In my experience, it was relaxed aside from the stress that comes from facing an abrupt ending to your career. Some days civilian clothes were okay and some days not, but you were well informed ahead of time by your IDES representative.
Good luck, sorry that you are going through this.
