SGT (Join to see) Very good article, although I think it might be a little too soon to distribute that one that. Or maybe to late, depending on how you look at it. I know in my office we had 5 SSG that got looked at this year and 3 that made it. The two that didn't probably are top 10% of their MOS, but 35M only promoted 1% and 35N only promoted 5%. So I think that part is true, however I feel like today they just want to be gloomy and cranky. Tomorrow we build them back up, and prepare them for next years board.

SSG Jordan Gaudard, I just received this today. Congratulations on the 3 that made. Also, good luck preparing them for next years board. It's nice to read from someone who actually does this.

SGT (Join to see) I wouldn't have made it if I didn't have the NCOs I have had. Mentorship doesn't just start the year before you get looked at, it happens day 0 of Basic Training.

SSG Jordan Gaudard - I have to agree with that. I was promoted to Sargent in Vietnam because I had leadership capabilities. I was drafted and every day of basic, I tried as hard as I could. My theory was, since I'm here, I'm going to do everything I can to be a good soldier, and I was. I think it's born into the leaders, and they realize it before they graduate high school.

Maj Marty Hogan, Had I stayed in, and had I made it through at least two more tours in Nam, I would have been a SSG, after I re-enlisted. Looking back now,I really wish I would have done that. I believe I could have worked my way up in rank to CSM. I would have taken any training I could, and possibly, an Ocifer.

From what I have seen you can make E-7 in 16 years without serious juice. You can make E-8 if your record is spotless in 20 years. You can make E-9 in 24 years if your record is spotless and you have some serious powered friends in the military to juice your record so it is well seen by people in the know. For officers 0-6 is about the limit for a good officer. Unless your a member of the fellowship of the ring.(Naval academy , West point, Airforce academy.) Only exception is if you have serious political pull. Son of an acting senator type juice.
