SMUs are entities that are "needs of the army" based. Any service member from any branch can try out. Just find your closest Military post and the Special Ops recruiters there.

If you are speaking of the certain group I think you are than yes you can. We have had Soldiers in our SOD (ARNG) and 19th Group next door to us actually try out. In fact, you don't even have to be a specific military branch either. If you make it through their APFT and numerous interviews then you will become active duty (can't stay in guard status for that). Recruiters are everywhere but several on/near Bragg. You should be able to find a recruiter through JSOC's public site (actually calling though), but I know they have a SIPR page as well (don't know what the address is off-hand, but you can try an intelink search). Point is, just reach out to JSOC they can point you in the right direction.
