I have voiced concern over lack of parity with this test among the components before, and I will repeat it again. Full time Soldiers will have opportunities to train in these events without cost to the individual and they will have much more access to the equipment needed. "...Every gym in America has a 10-lb medicine ball." Not every Soldier has access to a gym, or the funding to pay for a membership which may, may, provide the equipment that AD Component Soldiers will eventually have unfettered access to.

I have a membership at a neighborhood recreation center and have some of the things. But it is a small facility and does not have the space for practicing throwing a ball over my head. It does not have a sled or a hexagon bar.

I am glad the test period will include all the components. We will see how the issues shake out over the next few months.

In The local Gym here if you start throwing medicine balls over your head, the next thing thrown will be you, right out the door

SFC I'm not sold when they say "everyone" having something "everyone" actually having it. I see the AD folks getting it first (as usual) and after awhile, NG/Reserve units beginning to get theirs provided they're not told to go to the nearest AD post and sign for theirs. I cannot remember a time in the Army when "everyone" was slated to get something and "everyone" got it. It has/will be the trickle down effect, and there are always two "losers" in that. National Guard and Reserves. Even MANDO training is something "everyone" is supposed to do and get. I bet the Guard/Reserves do it a bit differently, and maybe smarter than AD.

SSG Warren Swan One issue I see is that we have a Professional Education system that does combined training. Recently APFT scores became part of the GPA and are a significant factor in determining student ranking. I feel that there is the potential for Soldiers from 'two "losers"' that you mentioned to have a disadvantage if they don't have the same access to equipment across the board, that AD Soldiers will.

I also wonder about Soldiers who have TDY assignments, or are in field problems for many weeks out of the year, and how they will be affected by potentially losing access to the training equipment. I remember when I was active with a construction engineer unit. They had both the earth movers and the nail-benders out on projects all over Germany. I am pretty darn sure they did their PT test near the site. I don't know if that could happen now, unless the work site was on a base that had the required amount of equipment to do the test.

100% agree, when I was in the Recruiting Commmand we were just as remote a a lot of the USAR and ARNG Centers. I can better understand thier struggle with limited resources and being dependent on civilian resources but without the financial backing of the Army. Sure, the YMCA gives us a free pass, but the Army is not flipping he bill to ensure that remote locations and reserve units have access to the same resources as the Active Duty Divisions.

Guess someone failed to account for just an few small details! I don’t care how much effort they put but history says that the reserve component is about to get screwed. Again!!!

They never consider the idiosyncrasies of the reserve components.

Of my 27 years of service 5 where on the reserves so I have a little insight of how screw they get. Always, with a very few exceptions, receiving the crumbs from the active component.

The Guard a few years ago were supposed to get some Apache's in their inventory. Funny how that changed and the Guard got some depleted old Blackhawk for a "mission change". One team one fight or is that only when dealing with CIF?

Back to the three event APFT. Have to admit the NG put it to GEN Miley in this article. No fluff straight facts. It will be an issue when dealing with long commutes with the Guard and Reserve units. “We’re going to get you the equipment. It’s going to get distributed to the force, but don’t wait. I guess I’m stomping my feet. Do. Not. Wait," Milley said. “This test is hard.”.....this is where you pre-stage equipment and focus on getting as many troops to said equipment before running the gums on implementation. If the AD units don't have it, more than likely the Guard and Reserve units won't get it. It's a BS pecking order that screws the weekend folks. If you expect Joe to train on something, Joe should already have the gear and equipment required to do the task. This only sets someone up for failure. MACOMS don't always have their own weapons, so they borrow from other units that might be NG/Reserve. Are they going to partner up and do this train and test thing? GEN Miley isn't a stupid man, but in this one case (outside of the PV2 he said was one some secret squirrel type mess), he should've known to have things pre-staged so the "train-the-trainer" is already there, and the unit trainers can maintain proficiency with the equipment being it IS there to use. Unless there is a magic wand solution already in the making, this will lead to command teams going up the chain telling their superiors they cannot make mission, and they'll have a damn good reason why. Three event APFT anyone?

Not to mention the weight training stuff you have to have for the new Army fitness test and then having to buy a new pink and green uniform retro 1940s to replace the class Alpha uniform made obsolete a few years ago.
