May he RIP! AATW!
This fine gentleman was the Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division when I arrived there in 1976, and he was the XVIII Airborne Corps Commander when I left the 82nd to go to Panama in 1980.
And I definitely can tell you that he was family oriented. Just before he left the 82nd, my grandmother wrote him a letter stating that I had not written since I had arrived at Ft. Bragg. I got called up to his office and had to write a letter to my grandmother in his presence, place it in an envelope and gave it to him and he insured that it got in the mail.

General Tackaberry was a few years before my time with the 82d but I remember being a 2LT and meeting one of his sons while I was there. Another great soldier gone on to the final formation.

Sounds like a great Commanding Officer. He will be missed, but he is now up there with all of our past generals looking down upon us and guiding us to make the right decisions. I never knew the general you were talking about, but that is how I feel about all brothers and sisters that pass on. They are all waiting for us.
