I like to participate in a Veteran's Day activity each year. I also enjoy taking advantage of a free meal from one of my favorite restaurants.

Awesome MSgt Curtis Ellis. That's a great way to honor our homeless veterans.

Zero. I don't need the free meals, but many other vets do, especially the homeless vets. I'll pass so that businesses don't have to deal with the extra demand (which may undermine their offering free meals in the future).

Sir, a good way to go about it, is what my buddies and I used to do (been a few years since we met up on Veteran's Day), just tip the meal cost. It was our way of paying it forward. It makes the waiter's or waitresses' day.

Here is what I do. I order a meal and the free meal. I tip for what would be full amount of both meals, and then I take the free meal and I find a homeless vet, or vet who is panhandling, and give them that meal. I see it as about the only way I can thank the restaurant, and help a brother in need.

I think part of the intent here is for large groups to show up and not just have a meal but maybe a beer or two with it and bring a spouse with them. Like mentioned by LCpl Fiore, tip big.

Me and a bunch of my vet buddies get together every year for lunch. This year we're going for breakfast and dinner. We enjoy the camaraderie and one meal isn't enough time for us to spread our BS. Lol

Kevin it's a good way to pay it forward. We always buy some of the vets food. Whatever they want. Some, you can tell they are homeless. It's a great feeling. You don't have to eat. Have a Coke or something and help a vet.
